Todd McKie

Todd McKie is recognized for his distinctive visual style characterized by simplified forms and rough line work. His seemingly straightforward scenes of everyday life, featuring everyman figures, mask deeper explorations of human interactions and the absurdities of contemporary existence. McKie's art draws extensively from his personal experiences, including his travels, his immediate surroundings, the people he knows, and even the meals he has enjoyed. His diverse body of work spans paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and collages, though drawing remains at the core of his practice. Influences on his work include what is typically labeled as Outsider or Primitivist Art, as well as the art of children. When describing his approach, McKie said, “I try to make the most beautiful, mysterious, funniest, and truest things I can.”
